Dry Needling

With Dry Needling, the needles are used to target the trigger point of the problem muscle, this is known as the myofascial trigger point and is often described as a muscle ‘knot’ which contributes to muscle pain and dysfunction. The needle is gently inserted into the skin directly at this point and often a local twitch response is experienced, this is a good sign and is what the Physiotherapist is looking for. It means the trigger point has been stimulated, jump starting the muscle and nerve supply and increasing the blood flow to the area which helps to relax the muscle. When this local twitch response occurs, a brief painful response might be felt but it won’t last for more than a second. After dry needling treatment, the area that was treated will feel much softer and relaxed and the person will feel looser.

Cupping Therapy

Cupping therapy is one of the oldest and most effective method of releasing the toxins from body tissue and organs. It is also known as vacuum cupping, hijama cupping, horn treatment etc. It is a practice in which the therapist puts special cups on the skin to create suction. This causes the tissue beneath the cup to be drawn up and swell causing increase in blood flow to affected area. Enhanced blood flow under the cups draws impurities and toxins away from the nearby tissues and organs towards the surface for elimination.

Acute/Chronic Lifestyle Pain

Acute/ chronic pain pain can be mild and last just a moment, or it might be severe and last for weeks or months. Chronic pain is pain that is ongoing and usually lasts longer than six months. Increasing temperature through massage for chronic pain helps to relieve muscle tightness and tension as well as increase relaxation and reducestress. Relieving tightness and tension, increasing relaxation and reducing stress all through an increase in temperature help to reduce symptoms of chronic pain. This study shows that integration of massage therapy into the acute care setting creates overall positive results in the patient’s ability to deal with the challenging physical and psychological aspects of their health condition. At Healing Hands I use different massage techniques to help my clients with their pain. Some of the most popular methods are friction and compressing.

Post Liposuction Massage

Lymphatic Drainage Massage

Massage and lymphatic drainage have clear benefits following liposuction and fat removal. Immediately following liposuction, massage and lymphatic drainage will help the body to recover actively and more efficiently. Massage is often underestimated and many surgeons and clinics do not emphasise the benefits of massage enough. Manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) massage is frequently recommended by plastic surgeons during the recovery phase following cosmetic liposuction. This specialized form of massage is generally believed to decrease recovery time and improve results, by reducing post-surgical swelling and fibrosis (scar tissue formation).
